Five Scholarships for Junior High School Students
1. Doodle 4 Google: $30,000 Scholarship
- Amount: $30,000
Google has built an empire by attracting highly innovative people. It's not surprising that they offer scholarships to high school students (and others). Each year, the Doodle for Google contest is held. It was created in 2008. Students K-12 are invited to create a Google Doodle that will be featured on the Google website for one day. The winner of the contest will receive a $30,000 scholarship. The winner's school will also receive a $50,000 grant for technology!
The National Finalists will also receive some great prizes, including a computer, and a Google trip to meet doodlers. State and territory winners are also recognized as winners. Even just being named as a National Finalist will make your college application look great.
2.Prudential Emerging Visionaries
- Amount: $15,000
The Prudential Emerging Visionaries Program, which is offered in partnership with Ashoka and Prudential, is an excellent scholarship for junior high school students. The Prudential Emerging Visionaries program, in collaboration with Ashoka, is a great scholarship for high school juniors.
The evaluation criteria for initiatives designed for the program are:
- Innovations that are dedicated to the financial health of society and its issues
- Understanding the program and making a connection to the community
- Vision for the future with a positive impact on the community and possibly beyond
- Passion for Change
If applications are submitted before a certain deadline, there are also Early Entry Awards of $1,000. The applicants will also receive feedback about their initiative, as well as a digital certificate and on-demand courses.
In two categories, Financial Solutions and Societal Solutions, 25 winners will receive $5,000 each. Financial Solutions Grand Prize winner will also receive $10,000 and two winners in each category will be awarded the Prudential Employees Choice Award ($5,000).
3. Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes
- Amount: $10,000
The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes recognizes students aged 8-18 who have impacted their community and benefitted others as well as the planet. Students must be currently working on or have worked on a community service project, and they must be leading or having led service work. This scholarship is perfect for high school juniors, as many of them are already involved in projects that fit under this category!
Students must submit at least two letters of recommendation, as well as one from a Lead Referee. The Lead Reference should be someone who can advocate for the student. The $10,000 prize includes a personalized award, a certificate of recognition, networking opportunities, and more.
4. National Merit Scholarship Program: Various Awards Available
- Amount: Variable
It is a great college scholarship that is well-known among junior high school students. The National Merit Scholarship Program recognizes students who have taken the PSAT during their junior year in high school. The organization recognizes and commends 34,000 of the highest-scoring students. It also recognizes 16,000 semi-finalists as well as the top 15,000.
National Merit Scholars select the winners based on academics, essays, recommendations, and other criteria. This program is open to all students, even those who are not finalists. National Merit Scholarship Program participants are often awarded with other scholarships.
Remember that although sophomores are technically allowed to take the PSAT test, they will not be eligible for the National Merit Scholarship Program until they submit a request in writing that has been approved. In most cases, this scholarship is only for junior high students!
5. Gen. Kelly Tanabe's scholarship
- Amount: $1,000
Students in high school are encouraged to submit a 250-word essay to be considered for the $1,000 scholarship. Essays can answer either one of the two questions on the application, or they can be written on any topic the applicant wants. The applicant can reuse an essay they wrote for a previous class, scholarship competition, or college application.
It's a simple and quick scholarship for high school juniors! Every little bit counts. There are two deadlines each year: July 31 , st, and December 31st.
